The Empress

At A Glance

Positive: Femininity, abundance, nature

Negative: Overbearing, possibly needy

Description

The Empress is numbered 3 in the Major Arcana.

The Empress is wearing a robe with the symbol of pomegranates, which symbolises fertility. Her crown has 12 stars, perhaps linking to higher knowledge of the universe (12 months, 12 Western or Eastern zodiacs). This crown and the staff shows she rules the domain she is in, which is nature, as she is surrounded by a forest.

The throne she is sitting on has red cushions, and the bottom we see a heart shape with the symbol of femininity or the planet Venus. This emphasises how The Empress represents love and femininity.

Lastly, we can see a wheat or rice field near her feet. This symbolises abundance, growth, and life (cause rice harvest is life).
