The Moon

At A Glance

Positive: The unconscious, intuition, release of fear

Negative: Negative emotions, anxiety, illusion

Description

The Moon is numbered 18 in the Major Arcana.

The Moon provides a dim light between two towers, revealing a winding path to the higher consciousness, compared to the sun which is bright and cheery.

The Moon can change between a full moon, waxing moon, new moon, and waning moon, and thus, symbolizes our emotions. Since our emotions stem from the unconscious, the moon can also represent the unconscious and our intuition. While the brighter shades of the moon might assist with clarity and a release of negative emotions, the darker shades can represent negative emotions like fear and anxiety.

The dog and the wolf symbolized the tame and untamed aspects of our mind, while the lobster crawling out of the water represents a release of things we do not want from our unconscious.
