He is standing on what looks like a castle wall as he overlooks into the distance, and we can see one of the staffs is locked into the castle, while the other is in his left hand. This shows that he is planning ahead or wanting to venture out, yet still not ready to leave the comfort of his castle.
In the distance we see huge forest and a lake, signifying the opportunities that are out there, which the man might be contemplating too. He can realize those dreams when he is ready to step out and take action.
